Escape
Sometimes you have to get away for a while. This doesn’t mean you are running away from something it just means you are clearing your mind from the things that aren’t so important. You are making time to ground yourself and focusing on who you are and who you want to be. You are more than what you do and what you bring to the table. You are more than the labels you wear (manager, brother/sister, husband, mother etc.). Those are important roles you have in your life, but that is not all you are. You need to be true to yourself. A way to connect with yourself is to disconnect for a minute. Unplug, turn off, and clear your mind. Everything in your routine has an emotion attached and gets you to start thinking. You driving down that road you take on your way to work makes you think about the things that await you. Take a different road today. One you have never been down. A scenic route helps to ease the mind about the worries of today. Earlier this month I took a six hour drive to clear my mind. I made a playlist and turned the radio up. I saw things I have never seen and met people I would have never gotten the chance to meet. I didn’t take any pictures of this trip. It was a trip just for me not one to share with the world. When you give yourself the opportunity to slow down, step out of your routine, and just be, the things you want and care about become very clear. Surprisingly these things are much simpler than you think. When you are alone in the quiet it’s like a whisper. Your mind isn’t shouting at you the things you need to do or have to do. Your heart and mind are connecting and in sync. Gently whispering to you this is who you are, this is what you desire, this brings you peace, this is what you value, and this is where your heart is. Allowing yourself to listen to these truths and understanding that those are the things you need to focus on. Those truths deserve your time and energy. During my trip different verses brought me comfort and understanding. I know we all have different spiritual views and things that give us peace and comfort. For me reading the Bible and listening to God’s word gives me peace and redirects my thoughts. This particular one talks about renewing your mind. Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” It is never to late to be transformed into who you really are meant to be. I love how it says by changing the way we think. Our thoughts can consume us and we need to spend our time thinking about things that support us and transform us. We have one chance in this life. You decide how you spend your time and who you spend it with. You decide the woman or man you are going to be. Do not let the world decide this for you. This world needs you to be you. Let your heart be gentle, your words be kind, and your mind be at peace.
